House of Women (HOW) is a platform for women empowerment. It strives to
get as many women as possible involved in the development of our
country, Namibia. We intend to achieve this vision through specific
core functions such as capacity development, networking and smart
partnerships.
1. Capacity Building
Aims:
- Female-owned businesses are: run more efficiently,accessing more resources, and more profitable and sustainable
- More women entrepreneurs
- Increased skills transfer by experienced women
- Increased number of women in leadership, management and technical positions
Examples of activities:
- The annual Namibia Women's Summit event (the flagship of HOW)
- Extensive training programmes: Women directors' training and mentoring programmes
- Short-term training programmes (regional): Entrepreneurship, business, leadership, management
- Technical skills training (regional and targeted to women leaders): Proposal writing workshop, effective negotiation and communication skills
- Women empowerment curriculum
- Initiatives for Youth
2. Networking
Aims:
- Increased number of women taking initiative
- High motivational levels amongst women
- Increased levels of awareness on best practices, opportunities and information, role models and women involvement
- Database on women leaders, entrepreneurs, organisations, service providers and other role players, and all women empowerment initiatives.
Examples of activities:
- Dialogue among women through forums and events
- Regular networking sessions
- Participation in inter / region / national fora
- Development and regular update of database
- HOW website
3. Smart partnerships
Aims:
- Increased sharing and optimizing of resources among women organisations
- Improved integrated planning and streamlined operations among women organisations
- Improved impact through women organizations
- Women issues a high priority on the agenda
- Women organisations speaking through one voice (national agenda)
Examples of activities:
- One-women-one-nation workshop
- Improve cooperation among organisations working on the same issues
- Lobbying for women agendas with politicians, corporate, etc.
- Workshop with policy makers
- Sign memoranda of understanding with strategic partners, esp. government offices, ministries and agencies
- Representation and active participation in national fora and discussions
- Support to other women organizations
